CASE MANAGEMENT:
All clients must meet with our Case
Manager for an assessment which identifies and prioritizes the clients'
needs. The information gathered from this assessment along with the
clients' input and future goals are used to develop a restoration plan
for the client. Referrals are distributed and are necessary to assist
the clients in overcoming the barriers of homelessness and unemployment.
Individualized plan of services are created based on the clients' needs,
strengths and future goals. There is an ongoing interaction with the
client and the service provider to coordinate the activities. The Case
Manager monitors the delivery of services to ensure that the client and
the service providers are engaged in activities related to the original
plan of action.
ADVOCACY:
Our Case Manager and Volunteer Advocates
will coordinate the delivery of services and community
resources that will best support our clients' needs. Our Advocates
assist with referrals to the social service providers in our community.
Our
Advocates network with community residents at local shelters and attend
community meetings as a representative for homeless prevention. Our
Advocates assist by scouting out local educational institutions to help our
clients' obtain the proper education and/or training to pursue their goals, in addition to
the job leads and training workshops.
COMPUTER CLASSES
Compton Welfare Rights Organization, Inc.
(C.W.R.O., Inc.) has computer software and internet access both offering
computer training for introductory concepts and techniques in basic
typing, MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. All of our
clients' are encouraged to sharpen their computer skills in order to become
more qualified for the current job market.
LIFE TRAINING SKILLS WORKSHOPS:
Our life training workshops are conducted
weekly for the purpose of independent living preparation. Family
budgeting, practical shopping, cooking, sewing, good
housekeeping, personal hygiene, effective communication, organizational
skills, conflict resolution, problem solving, time management,
employability, active listening, proper work attire and assertiveness
are all some of the subjects covered in this series. Each client is
responsible for heir share of upkeep in the facility and the proper care
for their children.
PARENTING CLASSES:
Compton Welfare Rights Organization, Inc.
(C.W.R.O., Inc.) conducts parenting classes biweekly that all of our
clients with children are expected to attend. Our parenting class series
assist the mother with the proper care for their families. Our parenting
classes are designed to offer the parent education, alternatives,
motivation and compassion to help them to discover the leader within. Good communication skills, active listening, anger
management, conflict resolution and time management are the main focus
of this series.
TEMPORARY ON-SITE EMERGENCY CHILDCARE:
Childcare is provided for our mothers that are in an emergency need of
childcare while interviewing for employment.
EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES:
Compton Welfare Rights Organization, Inc. (C.W.R.O., Inc.) has developed
great relationships with our community based development agencies to be
better able to provide a wide variety of social services for our
clients. Watts Labor Community Action
Committee (W.L.C.A.C.), One Stop Career Center, Compton Career Link,
Compton Community College, Maxine
Waters Educational Center and Chester Adult School are organizations
that actively work with our clients to help them to gain
self-sufficiency.
INFORMATIONAL AND REFERRALS TO OFF-SITE SERVICES:
Compton Welfare Rights Organization, Inc.
(C.W.R.O., Inc.) offers community information and referrals to the
programs and services our clients are interested in pursuing.
A referral letter or phone call is made on behalf of the client to
secure an appointment with the service. Each client will be provided
with the proper attire, referral information
and transportation assistance to help her get to the location.
JOB PREPARATION:
Our Job Development Specialist networks with community employer contacts
to increase the number of opportunities for our homeless clients.
Employment counseling job
preparedness workshops, functional resume preparation, interviewing
skills, and computer training are covered in this series. The Employment
Specialist goal is to help our clients gain the proper knowledge and/or
training to obtain employment with a livable wage. |
